Completely dependent on us.

And if I’m being honest, the only reason we finally got around to it was because of one thing:

Guardianship.

We needed to know that if something happened, someone we trusted would take care of them.

That was what finally motivated us to get it done.

At that stage of life, the question was simple:

Who will take care of the kids?

But then life moved on.

The kids grew up.
They became independent.
They left.

And as each one left, I remember feeling like there was a hole in the house.

But after a few hours had passed, (and maybe a glass of wine or two), I started to see things a little differently.

I had more time.

More freedom.

A chance to look at my own life again.

And somewhere in that space, my thinking shifted.

Not away from my kids, but toward how I would support them in a different way now.

Because once your kids are grown, estate planning changes.

You are no longer choosing guardians.

You are looking at bigger questions.

Who should step in if something happens to me?

Would one of my kids make a good executor, or would that be too much for them?

Would choosing one child create tension between siblings?

Have our assets changed since we first made our wills?

Do our old decisions still reflect our life today?

Would our kids know where to start if they had to handle things?

And then there are the questions that belong to this stage of life too.

Are we financially prepared for retirement?

Does our home still make sense for the life we want?

Have we organized the information someone would need if they had to step in?

Have we actually talked to the people we’ve named in our documents?

That is the part many people miss.

A will is not just something you create once and forget about.

It should grow with your life.

The will you made when your children were small may have done exactly what you needed it to do back then.

But the empty nest stage is a natural time to ask:

Does this still fit?

Because this chapter is different.

Your children are adults now.
Your assets may look different.
Your retirement plans matter.
Your home, lifestyle, relationships, and priorities may have shifted.

And your estate planning should reflect that.

This does not mean everything needs to be changed.

Sometimes the review simply confirms that things still make sense.

But sometimes it reveals small updates that could make things much easier for your family later.

A different executor.

Clearer instructions.

Updated beneficiaries.

Better organization.

A conversation with your adult children.

A fresh look at how everything fits together.

This is the value of reviewing your will at the empty nest stage.

It is not just about legal documents.

It is about making sure your life, your wishes, and your family are all being considered in the stage you are actually in now.

If updating your will has been on your mind, this is a really natural time to look at it.

And if you are not sure where to start, begin with these three questions:

Does my will still reflect my life today?

Would the people I’ve named still be the right people for the roles?

Would my kids know what to do if they had to step in?

Those answers will tell you a lot.

Because the plan you made back then got you through that chapter.

Now it is time to make sure it supports this one.
<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" arrives a little later, when the paperwork begins to pile up on the kitchen table and life starts moving again.

The question is simple:

Where do I even start?

Being named as an executor is an act of trust. Someone believed you were the right person to carry out their final wishes.

But trust doesn’t come with instructions.

Suddenly there are institutions to notify, accounts to cancel, forms to complete, and a long list of small tasks that no one really talks about beforehand.

Most executors are capable people.

They’re organized, responsible, and deeply committed to doing things properly.

But settling an estate can still feel like stepping into unfamiliar territory without a map.

Working around wills and estate administration, one thing has become very clear to me.

Executors don’t usually need complicated explanations.

What they need most is a place to begin.

Not everything at once.

Just the first few steady steps.

For many estates, those early steps look something like this:

1. Secure the key documents
Locate the will, death certificate, and any important financial or identification documents. Without these, most institutions cannot help you move forward.

2. Start a simple notification list
Banks, government agencies, insurance companies, and service providers will all need to be notified eventually. Writing down who needs to be contacted prevents things from being missed later.

3. possessions, but the legacy that lives on in the hearts of others through your stories, the glimpses into who you were, your values, the moments that shaped you, the ways you loved, the ways you learned, and the way you carried on, even when life asked more of you than you had to give.

These are the pieces your loved ones reach for when you’re gone.

And when we take the time to record them, we preserve something more than memory. We preserve meaning. We offer a way for future generations to know us, not just our names, but our lives. We create a bridge between “then” and “now,” between the family we knew and the family we won’t have the chance to know. People we may never meet, but who will still carry our name, our blood, our spirit, and the influence of our lives.

What I Learned From the Mexican Tradition

I enjoyed learning about the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos, a way of remembering loved ones who have passed that feels alive rather than rooted in loss. What stayed with me wasn’t dates or customs, but the philosophy behind it.

The feeling and comfort of it.

It’s a tradition that honours the idea that those who have died don’t disappear into silence. They remain part of the family story. They are remembered intentionally, thought of, spoken to, included. They are still loved. Still cared for. Still welcomed.

There’s something deeply reassuring in that. Remembrance isn’t accidental, and it isn’t meant to be carried alone. It’s shared. It’s intentional. It’s woven into the way a family continues, generation after generation

Learning about this changed how I think about holding onto the people we’ve lost. It reminded me that grief and love can exist together, and that remembering someone can be an act of care. A way of keeping them close through stories, shared moments, and the simple act of saying their name.

Why This Matters So Much Here

In Western society, we don’t always have traditions like that.

Remembering is often personal. Quiet. Private. Something we do alone in our own minds, in small moments, when something triggers a memory and we suddenly feel the ache of what’s missing.

And that’s exactly why this part of end-of-life planning is so special - and so important.

Because if remembrance is largely personal, then what we write down becomes a gift. A guide. A lantern someone can hold when they’re trying to find you again.

As a Writer, This Is What I Believe

As a writer, I believe our life is not ours alone.

It is meant to be shared with those around us, so we can all learn and grow together.

And I also believe that often the words we share may not land with others until they are ready to hear them. But they always find the right person at the right time.

Someday, someone close to you, or a future generation you will never know, may find comfort in your words.

Comfort in relating to your experience.

Comfort in understanding who you were.

Or maybe, comfort in understanding who they are.

Because when we know where we come from, we feel less alone in where we’re going.

An Invitation, Not an Assignment

I encourage you to take your time with this part of your planning.

Work on it slowly, and only when it feels right.

This piece is not a box to be ticked. It’s an intentional moment in time to connect with loved ones, past, present, and future.

It’s an offering.

A reaching of the hand across time.

It’s in these pages that your true legacy lives.

The one that will forever connect you to this life, this time, this journey.

And in that connection, there is comfort.
The kind that comes from knowing you mattered.
That your life, your words, and your presence continue to live on in the people who remember you.
<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" a breeze to move through.

It wasn’t.

As I worked through this part of my planning, I realized I wasn’t as organized as I thought I was. While all the pieces were there, they weren’t necessarily in the same place, or even in what might be considered a logical place. Things had been created at different times, stored in different locations, and organized in ways that made sense to me at the time, but not necessarily now.

I also realized I hadn’t reviewed my documents in seven years, and there were, in fact, things that needed to be changed or updated.

Looking at My Planning as If I Were My Own Executor

I made a conscious decision to walk through everything as if I were my own executor. I tried to look at what I had, and what I didn’t, through their eyes.

That’s when it became very clear that there were gaps between the information I had shared and the information my executor will need to know. There were things I had never talked about. There were decisions I had made based on circumstances that no longer applied. In some cases, it wasn’t even that the circumstances had changed, but rather that as life evolved so had my views.

This was especially true when it came to my health care wishes.

Over time, my personal views have evolved and so has my understanding of what my loved ones might need when the time comes, not just legally, but emotionally. Reviewing this section gave me the opportunity to make updates that better reflected my values now, and to think more carefully about how those decisions might feel for the people I love.

This is one of the real benefits of planning in advance and then taking the time, every few years, to review. It allows you to make sure your documents still align with your life as it is now.

Personal Items: A Bigger Project Than Expected

I also wanted to bequest certain personal items outside of my will. I initially thought this would be simple, but it turned out to be a much bigger project than I anticipated.

The first question was: Where are these items actually located? And then it occurred to me that it’s very likely those items may be located somewhere else when the time comes.

That led to the next question: How do you describe an item with enough detail to be clear, especially when it’s something personal or sentimental?

In the end, I chose a different approach. I took a picture of each item and printed the photo. On the photo, I made notes about what the item was, who I wanted it to go to, and the story or significance behind it.

This process had a surprising feel-good benefit. It gave me time to think back on beautiful memories and to share stories or details that may provide additional comfort to my family and to the recipient. It was a very pleasant, and very nostalgic, walk down memory lane!

Why These Items Aren’t in My Will

Because it’s entirely possible that these items may be given away, lost, or sold prior to my death, I chose not to include them in my will.

Instead, I left guidance in a memorandum as part of my planning.

Updating a will usually takes time, money, and paperwork, so it’s not always the best place for personal items that might move around, be gifted, or no longer exist years down the road.

A memorandum, sometimes called a letter of wishes, is different. It’s not legally binding, but it offers flexibility. You can update it as life changes. You can add to it, revise it, or rethink things without having to redo your entire will.

Essentially, it’s guidance rather than instructions. It gives your executor insight into your intentions and helps them understand what mattered to you, especially when it comes to sentimental items.

This approach isn’t right for every situation, but when used thoughtfully, it can reduce confusion and make the administration process feel a little more human.

A Final Reflection

What this part of my planning reminded me of is that being organized doesn’t always mean being prepared.

Even with a legal background, I found things that needed updating, clarifying, or rethinking. Walking through my documents as if I were my own executor was incredibly helpful, and it reinforced the value of regular reviews.

Planning isn’t something we do once and forget about. It’s something we return to as our lives, circumstances, and values change.

And sometimes the most meaningful part of planning is giving ourselves permission to revisit old decisions and choose differently, with the wisdom we have now.

The Empowered Estate Planner. This section might look small compared to the others, but it’s arguably the most useful.

As I leaned into this section, I was very conscious of the fact that when you no longer have family physically close to support you and your loved ones at end-of-life, it forces you to look at your friendships differently. I found myself considering which of my friends are physically close enough to help with things like appointments, errands, or pet care? Of those friends, who would I actually feel comfortable asking for help? And of those, who have I ever had real conversations with about what I would want if I were suddenly incapacitated or if death occurred?

In fact, I’m not even sure I’ve had those conversations with my spouse in a way that’s specific enough to be truly meaningful, or to provide the kind of clarity that would actually be useful if the worst occurred. And if my husband and I were both incapacitated, I certainly haven’t had these conversations with my kids.

I realize these are awkward conversations. They don’t come up naturally, and they rarely happen at a time when everyone is open to having them. That’s what makes this planning exceptionally helpful. We don’t have to talk about it, but my wishes are now written down should my loved ones ever be ready.

My hope is that they will never have to question what I would have wanted or chosen for myself. I want to help relieve that emotional weight and offer some comfort and peace at a time when I won’t be able to physically provide it. I want to reduce or eliminate potential guilt around the decisions they will inevitably have to make, because one day I am going to die, and one day someone will have to make those decisions. I don’t want my family to ever have to wonder, second-guess, or feel under more pressure than they already will be.

If I can ease even a little bit of the burden, I will. I don’t want to be the cause of any contention among them. My love for my family is what’s giving me the courage to face my mortality in my own way and on my own terms. And the only term I really have is that whatever I do, I do it for those I leave behind. That’s not cliche, that’s fact. My thought is: Let me be brave now, to help you be brave later.

My death will not be their problem, alone!

When building my team, choosing the people who will support my people, raised a lot more questions for me than I anticipated. We often take for granted that we have a strong social network of connections, people and community we interact with everyday, but one thing that hit me was that community in my life and community in my death are not necessarily the same community.

For example, while my spouse and children are my immediate health care decision makers, what happens if they are unable to step in. If there are no blood relatives available to make those decisions for me, the default moves to close friends. Once again, I was forced to look who of my close friends are physically close enough to be available, and of those friends, which ones have I talked to about my wishes, and which ones would even be willing?

Next, I looked at who would handle my finances. Of course, my husband or children can easily step in, especially in an increasingly digital world. However, while my husband knows my wishes around our joint finances, I have not shared with him my wishes around my business finances. Writing down bank accounts and passwords is only the beginning. What about my emotional wishes around my work. My business and partnership are soul led heartfelt businesses. Built for income, yes, but also represent who I am. Would someone acting as my power of attorney know what really drives me in my business? Would they understand why I do what I do, and what my goals and wishes for what I create are. Because beyond the numbers, how this part of my story ends is important to me. For soul led entrepreneurs, it’s especially important to have these conversations or write down your wishes so your body of work doesn’t become just numbers on a page.

When it comes to personal values, reviewing the list in The Empowered Estate Planner was incredibly helpful, and eye opening. They say a person’s core values don’t change, (I’ll explore that in a future Living Well blog), but what does change is the level of importance of those values when viewed through the lens of death.

What feels very important as part of my living life, doesn’t feel as important in death. Obviously, this raised even more questions, and one could argue it was really just an exercise in identifying what’s truly important. But I’ll argue that we have different needs while living, than the needs we’ll have while dying. Viewing how my values serve me now and how they might change at end of life was an interesting practice that will forever influence how I approach this work.

Equally fascinating was the exercise on lifestyle choices. When considered at end of life, my lifestyle choices are quite simple. It’s really such a shame our culture doesn’t allow us to live like we’re dying. I think we’d all be just a little bit happier if life were more simple - but try to practice that mentality in Western society and you’ll soon find survive and thrive feels more like an either-or choice.

Similarly, in life I have a lot of thoughts and fears around how to survive and thrive, but it turns out in death, my biggest fear is simply leaving my family unprepared. I know my family is going to be hurting, but I don’t have to add to it. There are ways in life that I can support them in my death, and it goes well beyond the will. Legal documents are important to have in place but once they’re in place, they’re only one piece of the end-of-life puzzle.

Before the legal documents, they’ll have to make decisions on how to care for my body. This section created a little quiet inquisitiveness for me. How do I want to honour this body that’s carried me through this life. What would feel like a fitting way to thank her for all that she’s allowed me to do. (And since I’m not currently in active death, just maybe she’d appreciate it more if I built a better relationship with her now). Who knew end-of-life planning would turn into self-counselling?

Lastly, I completed my memorial planning section. Oh man, do I have a party planned for you - but only if it feels right for my loved ones. My memorial is not about me, it’s about the people who grieve me. I hope, in their grief, they can come together to experience joy in their memories of me. I hope they dance to my favourite songs, because you can’t be sad when you’re dancing. I hope they enjoy their grilled cheese sandwiches as they toast my life with a glass of good wine. But if that doesn’t feel right to them, that’s okay, because it’s not about me. It’s about them knowing that whatever they do, however they do it, they are loved and while death may have taken my body, it will never take my love.

If you feel called to be brave with me, the full digital guide is available to support you, step-by-step, as an act of care for those Executor Advisor am well aware of the amount of work involved, I wasn’t prepared for the emotional weight, or the emotional relief, that came with sitting down with the clear intention of completing my end-of-life planning.

I began with the basics simply because I assumed it would be easy to tackle the “low-hanging fruit” first. What I quickly realized, as I started recording the small details I take for granted, such as my full legal name, date of birth or Social Insurance Number, was that this is the exact information my executor would be required to know, without the benefit of the second-nature recall I rely on every day.

As I moved through my planning, keeping my executor in mind with every stroke of my pen, the emotional relief grew and the weight of the work began to fall away. It really hit home that this is my final act of love. This isn’t work or a checklist, this is love in action.

I was genuinely surprised by how much mental space it freed up once it was done.

I also realized just how much information I carry in my head, details I know instinctively, but that my executor would absolutely not know, particularly under stress.

This work isn’t about planning for death.
It’s about comfort in a moment when it really matters.

Next, I moved on to Contacts.

Instead of relying on memory, I used the contacts already saved in my phone as a guide. Having everything right in front of me kept the process from feeling overwhelming. Knowing my phone will also be a helpful tool for my executor, I took a few extra minutes to update contact information and delete people who are no longer part of my life.

That small step alone will spare my executor the experience of making a difficult phone call and hearing, “Shelley who?” on the other end of the line.

Reviewing my contacts helped me prioritize who truly needs to be notified immediately, who could be contacted later, and who doesn’t need to be contacted by my executor at all. Updating my contacts also gave me a sense of organization in my current day-to-day life which aligns deeply with my living-well philosophy.

One thing became very clear during this process: designating a point person who is not the executor, could be incredibly helpful, as that person can assist with notifying friends or extended family and relieve a significant amount of pressure during an already emotional time.

Next, I recorded all my personal information. Yet again, more details I know without thinking, but someone else wouldn’t. Information required by Vital Statistics, such as my parents’ names, dates and places of birth, or where my birth certificate is kept.

Once again, I was struck by how long it would take someone else to piece this information together without my guidance.

When it came to my living expenses, I didn’t want to rely on memory alone, so I logged into my banking app and reviewed my recurring expenses including utilities, subscriptions, and memberships to make sure everything was listed, along with how each item is paid. This will provide my executor with an easy way to see exactly what expenses come out of the bank account on a regular basis.

What this week showed me clearly is that I definitely do not want to complete my end-of-life and estate planning all at once, but that I definitely do want to tackle it so my executor will know just how much I appreciate them.

The feeling of accomplishment this process gave me made the time well spent. Getting the basics out of my head and onto paper will save my executor hours of searching and second-guessing.

And it was a good reminder of just how many little details make up my life.

This week’s homework, should you choose:

Record your emergency information. The intent is “just the facts” so you don’t overwhelm yourself or the person who just needs to know who to call in an emergency or made aware of any existing medical conditions.

Record contact names and telephone numbers, along with any special notes.

Record your personal information, household expenses, subscriptions, and memberships.

The best place to record this in my humble opinion is The Empowered Estate Planner.

As professionals in the death industry, my business partner and I, have already thought through all the details, so you won’t have to.

All the prompts are there.
Nothing important will get missed.
You can add as much or as little detail as feels right for you.

Most importantly, it takes pressure off the people you love.

That alone makes it worth having.

However, you can absolutely use your own system if you already have one. The important thing is that you record this information so it’s easily accessible for your loved ones.

If you’d like help thinking through what to record and why it matters, I’ve created a more detailed digital companion guide to walk you the kind of tired that comes from holding too much in your head.

Life is busy. Most days are handled. And still, there’s a low hum of unease around a few personal matters that deserve attention.

They aren’t urgent, so they linger in the background.
Waiting for more time. More energy. A better moment.
Or until they become unavoidable.

Estate planning is often one of those things.

Maybe you’ve had the thought:
“I should probably get my affairs in order.”

And just as quickly followed it with:
“I’ll deal with it later.”

If that sounds familiar, this January is for you.

Why January, and why now?

January naturally invites reflection. We feel the pull to set intentions, create change, and do better than before.

The truth about goal-setting is this: meaningful change rarely comes from big promises. It comes from connecting a few simple dots and taking one step at a time.

That’s what this month is about.

This isn’t about tackling everything at once or doing things perfectly.
It’s about building a foundation thoughtfully and gently, in a way that truly feels achievable.

Living well means feeling steady in your life today.
Leaving well means knowing that if someone ever had to step in for you, they wouldn’t be left guessing.
That kind of peace matters - for you and for the people you love.

What we’ll be exploring together this month

Throughout January, I’ll be sharing one reflective piece each week here on Substack.

Each one focuses on a different part of your foundation, approached from the human side rather than paperwork or pressure.

Here’s what we’ll walk through, week by week:

Week 1: The Basics
Emergency information, key contacts, and personal details as a way of easing mental load and creating clarity.

Week 2: Health Care Wishes, Death Care & Memorial Planning
A conversation about dignity, values, and being understood if you were ever unable to speak for yourself.

Week 3: Legal Documents
This part of the process focuses on the basic legal documents that give these wishes structure and authority.

Week 4: Legacy
Not money or possessions, but meaning. What you hope is remembered, and what truly matters when all is said and done.

Each piece is written without jargon or overwhelm, and without any expectation that you do anything at all.

If it feels right to take a step forward, I’ll offer simple guidance to support you.

What you’ll get by following along

If you read these reflections each week, you can expect to:

feel calmer about a topic many people avoid

gain clarity without pressure

understand why certain things matter, not just that they do

feel more grounded in how you’re caring for yourself and others

build confidence, one small insight at a time

This is about preparing the people, not just the paperwork, starting with you.

Everything shared here is yours to read and follow along with.
Some people like extra structure. Others simply want perspective.
Both are welcome.

There’s no right pace and no finish line to race toward.

Why I’m writing this

I’ve been having many conversations lately about wills, estates, and the clarity families wish they’d had earlier.

What I’ve learned is this: people don’t delay preparation because they’re careless.
They delay because they’re thoughtful.

They want to protect the people they love.
They want to make the right decisions.
They want to approach these things with care.

I write to meet that thoughtfulness with calm guidance, and to remind you that living well includes tending to these matters with kindness.

An open invitation

If you’d like to receive these reflections in your inbox each week, I’d love to have you here.

Subscribing simply means you won’t miss what’s shared as January unfolds.
There’s nothing else to do.

Just read, reflect, and take what serves you.

We’ll start by building your foundation, together, gently.
<div Becoming an executor is often one of those moments.

The Executor’s Survival Guide - A Holistic Approach for Canadian Families was written to support those stepping into the role now, thinking ahead for the future, or hoping to ease the burden for those left behind. It is grounded in my personal experience as a legal administrator, combined with years of witnessing how estate administration impacts families beyond the paperwork.

Drawing on my experience as a former Wills and Estates and Real Estate Legal Administrator and as Co Founder of The Empowered Estate, this guide goes beyond technical steps and legal language. It centres the human experience of estate administration, recognizing that clarity, communication, and compassion matter just as much as paperwork.

This book is for executors who want practical guidance they can trust, for will makers who wish to prepare with care, and for families navigating loss while trying to make thoughtful decisions. Inside, you will find clear explanations, supportive structure, and a holistic approach that honours both responsibility and relationship.

Free Companion Resources on Substack

To make the guidance in the book even more accessible, I have shared the templates and tools referenced throughout the book as free resources here on Substack.

You can access them Here

These resources are available whether you are actively administering an estate, preparing for the role, or simply wanting to feel more informed.

Working Together

For those who would like more personal guidance, I also offer one to one support providing clarity, structure, and reassurance as you move through this process. *I do not provide legal, financial or tax advice.

You can learn more about working with me Here

If you feel this book might support you or someone you love, you can learn more and purchase The Executor’s Survival Guide online at <a confidence to a process that eventually touches us all.

Beyond the Will

The human side of preparing the person you But there’s another side, a more human part of the process that isn’t on any checklist, and that is the emotional readiness of those we leave behind.

As a will maker, you are doing something deeply courageous. You’re preparing for a time when you won’t be here, not just for your sake, but for theirs. The legal documents are important, yes. But so is the emotional legacy you leave behind.

The Executor Carries More Than Paperwork

Your executor will carry more than tasks. They’ll carry your memory. Your legacy. They’ll walk through the house you once lived in, make calls you used to make, and sit across the table from professionals while grieving your loss. No matter how organized your estate is, they’ll still feel the weight of being the one left to “wrap things up.”

What you do before you go can ease that burden more than you know.

A Guide for the Will Maker

Here are a few ways you can live well and leave well by preparing your executor emotionally, not just practically:

Have the Conversation.

Sit down with the person you’ve appointed. Tell them why you chose them. Let them hear, in your own words, how much you trust them. This gives meaning to their role and transforms duty into honour.

Acknowledge the Weight.

Let them know it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Grief and logistics make a difficult mix. Assure them that you’ve done your best to prepare things ahead of time, but they’re allowed to grieve and take breaks too.

Write a Letter.

Not a legal one, but a personal one. A letter they can open when the time comes. Share your hopes for how they move forward, not just what they need to do. Include small comforts, such as shared memories, encouragement, even humour. Think of it as a bit of your voice to guide them on a hard day.

Name Your Support Team.

List out who can help them when you’re not there. A friend who knows your wishes, a family member familiar with the family dynamics, or even a trusted professional who can help them navigate the executor journey.

Model Peace.

The more peace you have around your own end-of-life plans, the more peace you pass on. Living well includes dying prepared. It shows your loved ones that this part of life doesn’t have to be full of fear but can be handled with grace.

This Is Your Legacy, Too

Your legacy isn’t just what you leave in a will, it’s how you leave your people. Empowered. Considered. Loved. When you take the time to prepare your executor emotionally, you’re giving them more than direction. You’re giving them confidence. You’re giving them peace.

I believe that leaving well is an act of love, a thoughtful last gift, a way to support loved ones after you’re gone – a way to offer peace and a little bit of comfort when it’s needed most.

The Eloquent Entrepreneur Podcast. Linda isn’t just a wonderful host, she’s also my photographer and creative partner, with a rare gift for capturing both the person and the vision.

Our conversation centered on a topic that touches every family: end-of-life planning. Too often, it’s misunderstood as nothing more than lawyers, wills, and paperwork. And while those things are important, the true heart of end-of-life planning is love. It’s about legacy. It’s about easing the responsibilities your executor will one day carry and making life gentler for the people you leave behind.

Loss is something none of us can control. But we can control how we prepare for it. Planning in advance with your executor in mind is one of the most caring things you can do for your loved ones. It lightens their load, giving them space to grieve and heal, instead of being buried under paperwork and tough decisions.

When families prepare, the difference is night and day. With a plan in place, overwhelm turns to peace, confusion to clarity, and heartache is eased by the reassurance that guidance and structure are already there.

Being named an executor is both an honour and a burden. Executors carry legal, financial, and emotional responsibilities that can feel overwhelming without proper guidance. This is why executor support services are so valuable.

My role is to help families and executors navigate this journey with clarity and compassion. Through executor services and end-of-life planning tools, I provide the structure and reassurance needed so executors can carry out their duties with dignity and confidence, without burning out or feeling alone.

In my conversation with Linda, we explored a bigger vision: a world where executors don’t walk alone, where families feel supported, and where end-of-life planning is embraced as a natural, caring act of love.

Because at its core, this work is about more than documents. It’s about people. It’s about easing transitions. And it’s about ensuring that our stories, our love, and our legacies live on with grace and clarity.

Take the First Step Today

🎧 You can listen to my full conversation with Linda on The Eloquent Entrepreneur Podcast here: Listen now

And if you’ve been putting this off, consider this your gentle nudge. It doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. Even one small step can make a world of difference for you and the people you love. And you don’t have to do it alone, that’s why I offer end-of-life planning and executor support, to guide you through with clarity, compassion, and a steady hand when you need it most.
<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" But the quiet truth is that the hardest part is not the work. It is the weight.

Executors carry grief and responsibility at the same time. They’re trying to honour your wishes while navigating family emotions, unanswered questions, and the countless decisions that follow a loss. Even when the forms are simple, the role is heavy.

The more clarity you leave behind, the easier it is for them to breathe through a season that is already difficult.

That clarity does not come from documents alone.

It comes from your voice.
From the stories you share now.
From the reasons behind your choices.
From the small pieces of your life that help your family understand what mattered to you.

When your loved ones understand your heart, the process becomes gentler. This is why reflections and legacy matter so much. Your advice, your memories, and the meaning behind your decisions become a steadying force when everything else feels unsteady.

If you want to support your future executor in the most loving way, begin with one simple question:

What do I want my family to understand about me and my wishes when I am no longer here to speak for myself?

Even one conversation or one written reflection can make an extraordinary difference.

You do not have to figure this out alone. There are gentle ways to prepare, and they start simply.

If you would like help understanding what your executor will need or how to prepare with compassion and clarity, I am here.

You can reach me anytime at connect@shelleyessery.com.

Supporting your executor begins long before they ever need to act.

And it begins with your voice.

Get more insights on supporting your loved ones with clarity and compassion.
